Open to the Public: Local Chess Playing, Lessons, Tournament Play (Community Events)

Come play a friendly chess game or compete in one of our chess tournaments. You do not need to be a rated player. At our weekly meetings you will find chess players of all abilities and interests, from novice to intermediate to advanced. Whether you prefer a casual game or two or are here for serious tournament play, we can accommodate you. The chess club has 1 weekly meeting for casual games and tournament style play and a separate weekly meeting off-site for group chess lessons. Thursday Club Meeting: 6:00 to 9:30pm First United Methodist Church Downtown Classroom #234. Contact us if you are interested in joining the club, or just dropping by every once in a while, so that we may plan accordingly. There are no compulsory membership fees or dues of any kind. Fall Childbirth Classes are starting! (Childbirth Classes)

I teach childbirth education classes that pull from many great resources such as Dr. Robert Bradley, the Lamaze Institute for Normal Birth, author Sheila Kitzinger and midwife Ina May Gaskin. We focus on breathing techniques and many different comfort techniques that I have learned from my experience attending births as a doula and a midwife assistant, both in the hospital setting and the home setting.Classes are $250 (per couple) for an 8 week course and includes multi-dimensional instruction, a ten chapter student notebook, a postpartum breastfeeding visit, and unlimited phone / email support.If you have given birth before, please feel free to pick and choose the classes you would like to be "refreshed" on, only $30 per class! Also ask about the discounts that are available for my current doula clients, active military and low income families.

FREEDOM from Life’s DISAPPOINTMENTS — Speaker and author Cyndy Sherwood will be sharing a message of hope and healing through biblical teaching at a free event, “Wings of Healing.” Men and women, with hard events from the past, often experience the inability to go forward and live a successful life. Cyndy will explain the steps giving real-life examples including her own testimony. Come find out how so many people have been positively impacted!
